This is my final spreads for my magazine I am pleased with the outcome. Due to the layout working well and that the publication portrays my ideas and concepts strongly as well as the choices of typefaces I used. I will know get my magazine printed and bind it using staples, I hope to use Indesign in the future to create more editorial based work and improve my skills with this program.
Looking into paperweights I have decided to use a 160 g/m2 paper because it will be double the thickness of standard paper being 80 g/m2. Therefore having a more comfortable hold and being a better quality paper also the images will be in better quality due to less light traveling though the paper. As well as it not being to thick that it will not to fold cleanly, damaging the paper when creased.
I have chosen Optima for the majority of the text as this typeface isn’t used a frequency as fonts like Helvetia as well as the typeface representing Ezer being a sans-serif type is doesn’t portray the message of Ezer being formal or serious. That it shows Ezer to be less conventional and playful, which is represented in his type-Radio interview as, he makes jokes and discusses how he works and his taught processes. I have used a mix of monochrome in my magazine as the second spread has a white text on a black background and black text on a white background. Therefore the spreads link together as the same paragraph and character styles are used but don’t appear the same.
I plan too use white space in my magazine as I not using a coloured background or image, therefore the paper I will be printing on will be a shade of white. As I plan to spread the text mainly on four of the spreads I will have two spreads that forus on images therefore their will be space around these images as well as on the front and back cover.
This sheet shows the final images I will use in my magazine I have edit some of the photos using Photoshop. Talking away backgrounds to leave a paper background as well as the saturation to increase the brightness and dept of the images. I choose these photos over others was because I felt they best illustrated my ideas and portray the military concept best.
I will also use the typeface ‘Stencil’ for the title on the cover page as it relates to the military forces due to films and TV series using the font for example ‘The A Team. Therefore this typeface should work well with my concept and due to it being a bold font it will work well as a title, as it will standout against other typefaces I use.
I have decided to use a 3x3 grid throughout my magazine as I feel this grid will work best for my publication. As it will space out text but will still be able to include a large amount of text on each page if I want too, also this grid will work well with the dimensions of my publication.
These contact sheets show the outcomes of my experiments with photography I experimented with different materials, surroundings and objects. I am pleased with most of these photos and will now choose a selection that I could use in my publication.
These two sketches are of the Israeli Merkava (chariot) tank tracks and of the Israeli standard army boot tread. I plan to create a stencil out of gray board based on these sketches because they were the equipment used when Oded Ezer was serving mandatory service. Therefore this will portray an accurate representation of his time serving due to him wearing and seeing the uniform and vehicles used by the Israeli forces.
